4/4/2025 Mount Washington

Mount Washington is one of my favorite hikes to do in early spring. The snow is great and the road to the trailhead is always accessible. On a clear day like today, the views to both the north and south are amazing.

I made really good time on the hike, which means my legs are feeling better after last week's humbling experience on Mailbox Peak. Being a weekday and getting an early start meant I had the top all to myself. The solitude and beautiful views were good for the spirit. One cannot help but be amazed by Mount Rainier.

I seem to draw the attention of the local jays on my hikes, especially when no one else is around. A little food on top of my head and I become very popular.

IMHO, this hike is superior to the more popular Mount Si in all aspects - better views, more varied terrain, more challenging, and just more interesting. There are numerous places on the route where the terrain is wide open and you can all that the landscape has to offer.
